How addons work

Stremio addons on Android. Catalogues, streams and subtitles, inside your branded app.

Add an addon's link in your admin panel and it appears in your phone and TV apps. EasyCine ships with none, so every addon is your choice.

Short answer

Stremio addons work in EasyCine's phone and Android TV apps in every mode. Add an addon by link in the admin panel, from the in-app Store or by pasting a link, and its catalogues, streams and subtitles appear. EasyCine ships with no addons, so every addon is your own choice.

Four resources

What an addon can add.

  • Catalogues

Rows on Home and results in search, once you allow Stremio catalogs in the panel.

  • Details

Posters, descriptions and episode lists for the titles an addon knows.

  • Streams

Links listed on the title page, played in the app's player or an external player.

  • Subtitles

Added when a video starts, in the subtitle language each viewer picked.

Set up addons in your panel.

  1. 1Switch addons onTurn on Enable Stremio addons. It stays off until you do.
  2. 2Paste addon linksAdd each manifest link on the Addons page. The panel shows how many catalogues it has.
  3. 3Choose who gets itDefault Installed puts it on every device. Otherwise it waits in the in-app Store.
  4. 4Allow catalogue rowsTurn on Allow Stremio catalogs to show addon rows on Home and in search.

Legal addons

Good addons to start with.

  • Cinemeta

Stremio's metadata addon for catalogues and details. It has no streams, so allow Stremio catalogs first.

  • OpenSubtitles v3

Adds subtitles in each viewer's language as a video starts.

  • Your own addon

Serve your licensed library over the addon protocol and add its link like any other.

The other source

Nuvio-compatible plugins.

EasyCine also runs JavaScript plugins compatible with Nuvio inside the app. You list plugin repositories under Content Sourcing → Plugins in the panel, switch single scrapers off, and offer optional repositories viewers can turn on. Like addons, none are included and the plugin switch starts off.

Every addon is your call.

The download contains zero addons, and the addon switch is off until you flip it. You decide what goes in, so you answer for what your app plays.

Addon questions.

Do addons work in every mode?

Yes. They work in Tracker mode (watch tracker), Links mode and Panel mode, on the phone and Android TV apps. With no addon added, the app runs as normal.

Why won't a catalogue-only addon install?

An addon with only catalogues, such as Cinemeta, needs Allow Stremio catalogs switched on in the panel. Addons with streams or subtitles install either way.

Do I need a new app release to change addons?

No. Addon lists and switches live in Firebase Remote Config and are edited from the panel, so the apps follow without an update.

What's the difference between addons and plugins?

Addons are web services that speak the Stremio protocol. Plugins are Nuvio-compatible JavaScript files that run inside the app. Both are optional, off by default and yours to supply.

Can viewers add their own addons or plugins?

Addons, yes: with addons on, viewers paste an http, https or stremio:// link, or tap Install on a website that offers one. Plugins only if you switch that on in the panel.

Which addons should I avoid?

Any addon that serves content you have no rights to. Google Play can remove apps over their sources, so test with legal addons such as Cinemeta and OpenSubtitles v3.
